Battle Ready / Hidden Sword Dolls
Maker: Mattel
Includes: Doll with accessories
Price: $14.97 each for both MSRP
DC’s Wonder Woman comes out June 2, 2017 and regardless if the movie is a hit or miss (hoping for a hit) I knew the merchandise was going to be a huge draw simply because A) Wonder Woman, finally! B) Gal Gadot was the ONLY good thing to come out of BvsS and C) the merchandise looks good for once! Mattel didn’t miss a chance to capitalize on multiple outfits and characters from the movie and worked out a lot of potential issues beforehand.

Firstly, this goes for all the Wonder Woman dolls: her body sculpt and facial mold are awesome!! Wonder Woman has muscles, her shoulders/arms are jacked, she has thighs, and she's articulated at the knees/elbows/wrists/neck/shoulders/waist, plus molded underwear…all this without losing her femininity or beauty. Her body sculpt is strong but not mannish; she ain’t a ken doll in drag ok? She’s a trim, toned, warrior and her body matches that description; it’s one I’d happy to have my daughters play with. The facial mold does look like Gal Gadot; Mattel didn’t just stick some stock head on her like Belle. She has thick strong brows, a face that wasn’t overly thinned, wide eyes and almost no makeup. The one thing I found slightly detracting was the too pale lips. A touch redder on Wonder Woman would have made the face stronger and played off her luscious soft brown hair.
‘Battle Ready’ Wonder Woman comes with a screen-printed armor dress, plastic headband, armband, gauntlets, armor top, belt and boots as well as a coiled lasso of truth. The lasso doesn’t fit her hand well and easily slips out. The armband and gauntlets were cut a tad too wide for removal, meaning it’s easy for them to slip around and off. Not a fan of the screen print because I think it looks cheap and the belt sits too low, but for the price point I expected some cuts. The boots are great and she does stand on her own; feet are pointed inside by the way.
‘Hidden Sword’ Diana Prince is so pretty. Her dress, shoes and up do match the movie exactly, and while the dress fabric is thin and cheap, it’s a beautiful blue and gracefully draped across the doll. Her cleavage is minimal and the sword sits on her back well without issue. I love that she CAN reach back with her arm to pull it out; it looks so cool to do! The facial mold for this doll differs in her parted lips which gives her a whole different expression; one of innocence, curiosity and trust. Remember, Wonder Woman’s driving force is love and this “look” captures that.
Conclusion
Both these dolls are well worth the money and welcome addition for doll play or collection. The lack of shield, shield and plastic armor can easily be solved by upgrading to the ‘Shield Block’ version at $19.99, but I dislike the block “peg” built into the doll’s back. Getting both dolls does give you a sword though and a non-battle look to switch into. Very happy my daughter has these and I love seeing her have Wonder Woman kick butt!
