Queen Hippolyta is played by Connie Nielsen, whom I adore, but suffers the difficulty of having a stunning face comprised of both strong and delicate features and prominent angles. Her facial mold tries to capture all this but ends up offering a long face that’s too wide still and a hint of Connie. Knowing what she looks like, I know they tried but the Black Label version is much better. Her hair is a blonde version of Battle Ready Wonder Woman, which also detracts from the likeness, as in the movie it hangs wavy straight down her back.
Queen Hippolyta comes with a screen-printed armor dress, plastic headband, armband, gauntlets, shoulders, breastplate, belt and boots as well as her sword and shield. The shield and sword have lovely details stamped into them and her sword is different from Wonder Woman’s. Again, the plastic armor is cut too loose, while the shield won’t stay on unless you twist it a certain way to slide over the wrist and gauntlet. The one-piece screen print, while detailed, isn’t as striking because you have no depth for the layers imprinted. She does stand on her own.
The horse is basic. It stands, has a simple plastic light tan saddle, gold chest piece and bridle, but no reins, so I guess Hippolyta steers with her legs. The horse’s hair is very blonde and curly, with no color distinction between hooves and body. Expected way more for the price.
Conclusion
Overpriced for what you get. The doll is more in line with the $15 versions than $20 and the horse isn’t worth much at all. I’m tempted to put the accessories from it on one of my old walking horses for better play. It you want your kid to have one for play they can “destroy”, this is the one. But for the same price you can get the Black Label version sans horse and have a much better representation of Hippolyta.
