Coronation Day Elsa
Maker: Mattel
Includes: Elsa doll, 2 fashions & accessories
Price: $19.99 MSRP, varies now (clearance)
This, and the matching Anna doll, is the first Mattel manufactured Frozen doll I purchased, mainly due to my disliking of their dolls as compared to the Disney Store. (see Disney Store VS Mattel VS Hasbro posting) I picked her up for $15.73 through Amazon right after she came out.
I didn’t buy the Disney Frozen Deluxe Doll Gift Set when it was selling through the Disney store (to my regret) and I’ve been on the hunt for a nice coronation outfit. Disney has yet to release a fashion accessory set of them so I went with a doll instead. Most of the versions I saw were not movie accurate, or glitter bombed, or of such poor quality I didn’t want them.
This is the closest version of Elsa’s queen dress I've seen. Her dress is the right shade of turquoise, the long sleeved top is black with the high collar, there’s gold stitching edging the top and bottom of her corset, and best of all, the designs (albeit simplified) are screen printed on both skirt and corset. To top it off she comes with her gold crown.
Elsa’s nightgown is a grown up version of the one she wears as a child in the movie. The designs are screen printed onto the gown and accented with a ribbon. The sleep mask is a silly throwaway accessory; a headband would have been more accurate, but the slipper shoes are nice.
Final comments on the doll; surprisingly her makeup isn't garish and more subtle, with a sweet expression. The hair with the side roll is a tad large but works well for both crown and mask and is pretty movie accurate. Her body is hard plastic with soft face, and basic articulation in the waist, arms and knees.

I picked Anna up for $15.71 through Amazon right after she came out. I’m going to start with the doll because I hate her. Indeed, Mattel’s Anna dolls appear almost unrecognizable and a bit crazed, especially in the eyes. Her hair is all wrong: the white streak is blonde, her bun is depicted as a sideways roll and the color is strawberry blonde. The braid is nice, the makeup is subtle and lightly colored but her expression is over enthusiastic. Her body is hard plastic with soft face, and basic articulation in the waist, arms and knees.
Anna’s gown is the star here. The colors are movie accurate, her straps are off the shoulder, corset again edged in gold, and both her skirt and corset and simplified screen patterns. A plastic gold necklace completes the look although a basic hair comb and ribbon would’ve really jazzed her up.
Anna’s nightgown is the one she wears as waking up in the movie and accurate. The designs are screen printed onto the gown and accented with a ribbon. The sleep mask is again a silly throwaway accessory, but the slipper shoes are cute.

Conclusion
In hindsight I should’ve waited, as both these dolls are half off or more, but I was nervous they’d sell out and the price would rise. I bought them strictly for the coronation outfits and plan on switching them with another doll set I bought from JcPenny to get a really movie accurate set (see my following post) Still, I would recommend them, especially at the prices of $7 or less currently on Amazon.
