LONG TIME NO SEE!!! I’ve been super busy these past 2 months! Recap: back in March we made an offer on a new house that was 1st Right of Refusal contingent; meaning if someone else made an offer the seller liked, our contract kicked in and we either had to close or let it go. Sure enough, 3 weeks later they got a second offer so we began the closing process for our new house even though our old house hadn’t sold. Definitely wary about paying two mortgages, we hoped once we moved out the empty house would attract more showings and sell. No such luck.
At the advice of our realtor we put the house up for rent/buy and oh Lord did the people start flocking! I’m stunned so many people would pay $200+ extra to rent rather than buy but whatever; I’m not going to complain. In less than 2 weeks after we put it up for rent, we signed a 1-year lease with an older couple who are looking for land to build their retirement home. No pets, non-smoking and the profit from the rent will allow us to replace the external AC unit and replace the kitchen counters & floors WITHOUT having to dip into the house savings.
Thus we save money on the old mortgage and will be able to update so hopefully it’ll sell next summer, unless the tenants extend the lease for another year.
We also had to pack up the house, move, unpack and re-decorate; a never ending, on-going eternal saga lol. I’m still not hanging up pictures or curtains downstairs because I’m unsure of the new color palette and what our accent color will be.
We also haven’t moved all the books & misc items in my parent’s attic yet simply because they are upstairs, super heavy and I have a bad knee. But now that I anchored all the bookshelves last Sat, it’s time to get those boxes coming over. I plan to borrow their truck this weekend to bring back a larger haul, that is if my back is better by then….
